UPS tight-lipped about local impact roughly 12,000 job cuts could have
About 12,000 jobs are expected to be eliminated at UPS over the next several months.
A spokesperson said the job cuts will be happening globally, but they will not be breaking down where the layoffs are coming from beyond that.
UPS said it is attempting to "right-size its global staffing."
An over $9 billion decline in revenue last year is what is leading to the eliminated jobs according to officials with the company. They said over $1 billion will be saved by lowering the amount of employees.
UPS said all employees being affected by the job cuts will be given support such as severance packages and outplacement assistance.
None of the positions being cut are a part of the over 300,000 employees represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union according to both the company and the union.
Last August a new union contract was passed. Raising wages for part-time and full-time employees, creating at least 7,500 jobs, and filling at least 22,500 open positions is a part of that deal.
The announcement of the upcoming positions being eliminated came from the CEO Carol Tome in a company financial conference call.
