Town hall meeting set for Philipsburg state police barracks closing on April 6

PHILIPSBURG - In a recent letter to state representative Scott Conklin, Gov. Tom Wolf confirmed the closing and consolidation of the Philipsburg state police barracks.
Employees at the Phillipsburg station will be combined with the Rockview barracks staff.
There are plans to build new buildings for the Rockview barracks in the Benner Park area.
The plans were approved by the Centre County Planning Commission in June.
However, they said they weren’t told about any barracks consolidation plans.
In a memo sent out involving the Rockview plans, there is a list of cuts in staffing over the years.
Many people in Milesburg expressed their concern about losing police presence after the Philipsburg barracks are closed.
The new Rockview barracks will be built on property that was previously owned by the state.
According to Wolf, the state will pay close to $28,000 per month for the Rockview barracks and they will still have to pay the lease for the Philipsburg barracks facility.
A town hall meeting about the Philipsburg barracks closing is set for next Thursday, April 6.
It will be held at the Phillipsburg Osceola Middle School on Short Street in Chester Hill.
