Redskins reportedly eyeing Steelers' Mike Tomlin as next head coach

Could the Washington Redskins be eyeing Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin after firing their head coach Sunday following the team’s 0-5 start?

Some analysts seem to think so.

The Redskins fired head coach Jay Gruden on Sunday following the team’s 33-7 loss against the New England Patriots, according to NFL.com.

Now, the team is in need of some new leadership, and apparently, they have Steelers coach Mike Tomlin on their list of potential candidates.

NFL insider Jason La Canfora tweeted Monday, “I firmly believe that Dan Snyder’s primary objective in his next coaching hire will be to find a way to acquire Mike Tomlin from the Steelers. We’ll see how feasible that may be.”

ESPN reporter Ed Werder tweeted that he had a recent conversation with someone who knows the Redskin’s owner, Dan Snyder, well and that a potential list of candidates would include Tomlin.

Tomlin signed a one-year contract extension with the team this summer, which would keep him under contract through the 2021 season.

This is his 13th season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he has led the team to two Super Bowl appearances.
