Pirates trade Musgrove to San Diego, receive 5 prospects in three-way deal

Pittsburgh, Pa (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Pirates traded right-hander Joe Musgrove to the San Diego Padres on Monday night as part of a three-way deal, according to a team release.
In return, the Pirates netted four top prospects from the Padres, as well as catcher/outfield prospect Endy Rodriguez from the New York Mets.
Musgrove, who is a native of San Diego, said he is excited to be returning to his hometown.
“It’s extremely exciting to be able to play in the city that I developed my love for the game,” Musgrove told MLB.com. “It’s always been a dream -- I’m sure for every player -- to get a chance to represent their city and play in their hometown, especially right now at a time where I feel like the Padres have never been better.”
As for the Bucs, new GM Ben Cherington continues to deliver on his promise of building the team's farm system.
“In order to fill the talent base that’s big enough, deep enough, dynamic enough to win, we just need to add more.”
