Over 1800 homes now connected
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — More Somerset County residents are getting access to high-speed internet after a recent study to find areas with no service, or underserved areas, identified a few areas with the most need.
Middlecreek and Upper Turkeyfoot townships, as well as Jenner, Lincoln, Quemahoning and Somerset townships were prioritized.
At Tuesday’s commissioners meeting, it was noted that more than 18-hundred homes now have access to broadband internet through Verizon in the Middlecreek and Turkeyfoot project.
"It’s been an extremely long time coming. It’s nice to see that through the report stage and all the fact finding that's been done, that tangible results will be the end result of this; where people will be able to access broadband networks."
The original findings show more than seven thousand locations were underserved.
County officials say they continue to work to bring broadband to everyone.
