Despite surge in Covid-19 hospitalizations, PA Health Department maintains low level of concern

As Covid-19 cases soar nationwide, many people are concerned about possible infection.

Cambria County has seen 9 Covid-19 hospital admissions this past week. Followed by 6 in Centre county, 9 in Somerset, 9 in Blair, and the highest, 11 in Cameron County. All of this according to CDC data. While these numbers seem to be rising, the Pennsylvania Department of Health told us in a statement that:

While the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations have slightly increased over the past few weeks, overall the number of hospitalizations remain low and of a low level of concern.

Despite the department stating these numbers are unalarming, they still emphasize the need for up to date vaccinations, they told us that:

Pennsylvanians should continue to stay up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccinations, because the best defense against COVID-19 remains getting vaccinated and continuing basic health and hygiene practices, like handwashing, staying home when sick, and avoiding contact with people who have suspected or confirmed COVID-19.

They also told us that effective vaccinations and treatments as well as the evolution of the virus have an impact on the severity of the symptoms. They said:

COVID-19 has become a much less severe illness for most of the population and the number of hospitalizations and deaths have dropped dramatically since the height of the pandemic.
