Chiefs kicker punts Biden over 'delusional' abortion policy during graduation speech

ATCHISON, Kan. (TND) — Kansas City Chiefs placekicker Harrison Butker slammed President Joe Biden Sunday over his abortion policy, which he said defies the president’s faith.

Biden, a self-proclaimed Catholic, sparked outrage in April when he made the sign of the cross while attending a pro-abortion rally. The pious gesture of reverence to God, Butker said, was antithetical to the Catholic belief that all life comes from God and is therefore sacred.

"Our own nation is led by a man who publicly and proudly proclaims his Catholic faith, but at the same time is delusional enough to make the Sign of The Cross during a pro-abortion rally,” Butker said during his commencement address at Benedictine College on Sunday. “He has been so vocal in his support of the murder of innocent babies that I’m sure to many people, it appears that you can be both Catholic and pro-choice.”

Continuing, Butker called out those who use Catholicism to virtue signal to others of faith.

Being Catholic alone doesn’t cut it,” Butker said. “If we are going to be men and women for this time in history, we need to stop pretending that the church of nice is a winning proposition. We must always speak and act in charity, but never mistake charity for cowardice.”

Abortion is one of several areas where the president has bucked other members of his faith. The president in April defied the Vatican’s statement on gender ideology in expressing in his support for the transgender community.

"The president's role to litigate internal Church policy, that's not his role, so I'm gonna be super careful there," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. "But I can speak to the president's stance, and he's always been very clear on the importance of protecting or having protections for the transgender community and the broader LGBTQ+ community, and that's been very clear since day one of his administration."
