A birthday celebration for a boy who died in the Stonycreek river was held Sunday evening.

Family looked back at the life of 10-year-old Dakota Locher.

Authorities say Locher fell into the river after he dropped a toy into the water and was attempting to retrieve it.

They say first responders found the boy in about 15 feet of water.

Family of Locher said Sunday would have been his 12th birthday.

“We're trying to keep his memory alive as much as we can,” said Locher’s aunt, Billie Rager. “He was a really good kid. He had a good heart, and he would've loved this.”

Locher’s family said the event meant a lot to them.
