Cambria County nurse receives award for outstanding patient care

A Cambria County nurse received an excellence award Friday.

DaVita Kidney Care presented Abby Salvador with a Daisy Award for extraordinary nurses at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center's Atrium.

Salvador was nominated for the award by fellow coworkers and patients for her outstanding and compassionate care.

She moved to the area from the Philippines and had to work hard to adjust from her training there to be successful now.

Salvador said, “I’m really proud and thankful and grateful for my team, because I wouldn’t be doing this without my teammates; with our managers, with our heads, and, along with our clinical coordinator teammates, along with my fellow Filipinos; without them, I wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t be as confident as I would be working. I wouldn’t be as credible of a nurse as I would be; and, like I said, if they weren’t here for me, I wouldn’t have this award.”

She is one of 54 nurses who received the Daisy Award across DaVita’s 6,500 health care facilities nationwide.
