An apartment complex under construction in Las Vegas is a total loss after a massive fire in the southwest valley, the Clark County Fire Department said.

Crews were at the scene Wednesday morning continuing to extinguish flames. Firefighters were seen spraying water on the building, with some small flames still visible.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian O'Neal said dispatchers received multiple calls about the fire on Tuesday around 4:30 p.m.

Photos and videos show huge flames and thick smoke pouring from the building.

A large plume of smoke drifted over the Las Vegas valley as a result, causing ash to fall over several neighborhoods in the area.

The unfinished wood frame of the building contributed to the rapid spread of the fire, he said. The building has been deemed a total loss.

Nobody was inside the building and no injuries have been reported.

O'Neal said the fire likely started on the roof, but the exact cause remains under investigation.

A total of 75 fire personnel responded Tuesday afternoon, O'Neal said. It's unclear how many were still on scene as of Wednesday morning.
